What is the aim of this course?
This course will allow the learner to develop an understanding of commonly seen ECC cases and how to nurse them. It will provide the opportunity to explore the topics of shock and triage, how to deal with cases of GDV and urinary obstruction and types of commonly encountered animal toxins.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this course you should be able to:
- Identify how to nurse common emergency presentations across commonly seen species
- Demonstrate the correct nursing of shock and how to monitor for deterioration
- Review the current nursing of emergency patients in practice and how this could be improved

Advanced Veterinary Nurse
I am a 12-year qualified veterinary nurse who has worked in small animal practice as both a head nurse and a practice director. I have been working with the Learning, Education and Development team since January 2020, looking after the nursing programme.
I have my Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and recently obtained my Masters degree in Veterinary Nursing. I have a special interest in medical nursing and love supporting nurses in all aspects of their learning.
