What is the aim of this course?
To revise and review the nursing care of cardiac patients. This course will enhance knowledge of common cardiac diseases and how these affect the patients we care for.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this workout, you should be able to:
- Recall the physiology of the heart and what diseases affect the main heart structures
- Identify the main cardiac diagnostics and how to support the patient through these
- Understand how best to nurse these animals in practice and how to support owners once they go home

Course structure
This workout is designed to be completed within one hour and consists of:
- A warm-up to switch on your brain by testing your current knowledge
- A main session of learning to bring you up to date with the topic under discussion
- A warm-down assessment to test and reinforce what you have learnt

Advanced Veterinary Nurse
I am a 12-year qualified veterinary nurse who has worked in small animal practice as both a head nurse and a practice director. I have been working with the Learning, Education and Development team since January 2020, looking after the nursing programme.
I have my Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and recently obtained my Masters degree in Veterinary Nursing. I have a special interest in medical nursing and love supporting nurses in all aspects of their learning.
