What is the aim of this course?
This course aims to give you the knowledge and skills to nurse a variety of clinical diseases in practice. It will discuss and give you guidance on the anatomy of common diseases, clinical signs of these diseases and how we can effectively nurse these patients in practice.
Intended learning outcomes
On completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Review the structure and function of major organs and systems of the body
- Explain the physiology of a number of common medical conditions and how these affect the clinical signs
- Identify the correct methods of monitoring and caring for patients affected by these conditions
- Recognise the importance of nutrition in hospitalised patients and how and when to provide this nutrition
- Apply knowledge to order patient care to provide gold standard care whilst minimising the risk of infection

Advanced Veterinary Nurse
I am a 12-year qualified veterinary nurse who has worked in small animal practice as both a head nurse and a practice director. I have been working with the Learning, Education and Development team since January 2020, looking after the nursing programme.
I have my Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and recently obtained my Masters degree in Veterinary Nursing. I have a special interest in medical nursing and love supporting nurses in all aspects of their learning.
