What is the aim of this course?
This course looks at the importance of equity, diversity and inclusion at work, and the advantages these hold for all colleagues. On this interactive course you will learn what equitable and inclusive behaviour looks like and how to practice this at work. The course will also bring your attention avoiding any unlawful, inequitable or non-inclusive acts, as well as how to and challenge these if you experience or witness them.
Intended learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Define equity, equality, diversity and inclusion, recognise the benefits of them and differentiate between them
- Consider individual differences including backgrounds, identities and demographics and the level of diversity within our communities
- Consider bias and prejudice, the actions they can lead to, and how you can start to minimise the impact of your own biases
- Identify types of unlawful discrimination and the “Protected Characteristics” under the Equality Act 2010
- Contribute to an inclusive culture within your team and the wider organisation
- Apply your knowledge to be more confident in challenging non-inclusive or non-equitable behaviours

Nimisha Patel-Cook
Learning Partner
I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2015 with a BSc in Veterinary Nursing and Bioveterinary Science. After university, I made a permanent move to the South West where I’m based. I have previously been on BVNA Council where I founded the British Student Veterinary Nursing Association (BSVNA). I started at Langford Veterinary Services as a feline nurse, then made the move to Highcroft and progressed to Deputy Head Nurse. I moved into my role as a Learning Partner in October 2021 and have since completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHE).

Claire Dennison
Claire has been with CVS since August 2017, working in various roles from within the HR team, including as HR Business Partner for the Small Animal Division South Hub. Claire’s current role involves acting as company-wide lead on some of our key People focuses, including Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Wellbeing. Claire has been a member of our Wellbeing Committee since 2019 and led on the implementation of First Aid for Mental Health within CVS. Claire is also a member of our EDI Committee, and her keen interest in EDI is driven by both her personal and professional experiences. Claire is a passionate advocate for equal opportunities and developing inclusive cultures through continuous learning.
Claire graduated from the University of Manchester in 2005 with an honours degree in Law, and completed her Legal Practice Course in 2006. She has a particular interest in employment law, especially around equity and inclusion. Claire is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and also holds an ILM Level 5 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring.
