What is the aim of this course?

This course will allow the learner to develop an understanding of infection control in the veterinary environment. It will explore routine practices, preventative healthcare, surgery and zoonosis and will allow learners to develop skills relating to critical reflection on the current infection control procedures in their practice.

On completion of this course you should be able to:

  • Define key terms in infection control and disease transmission
  • Differentiate between waste management options
  • Recognise a variety of infectious diseases in dogs, cats and rabbits
  • Describe immunity in relation to preventative healthcare
  • Describe good surgery practice in relation to infection control
  • Define zoonosis and equip clients with the knowledge required to deal with patients with leptospirosis and MRSA
